HealthCore acquisition of NERI strengthens pre-approval and special populations research

WILMINGTON, Del. & WATERTOWN, Mass. —September 12, 2017—HealthCore, Inc., the outcomes research subsidiary of Anthem, Inc., today announced that it has acquired NERI, a privately-held, full-service contract research organization, to strengthen its pre-approval research capabilities.

“In addition to its experience in early phases of clinical trials, NERI’s unique experience in special populations, including pediatric and minority populations as well as rare, orphan, and underserved diseases, will allow HealthCore to broaden the scope of our real-world evidence development capabilities,” said Marcus Wilson, president of HealthCore. “NERI’s team has an expertise that complements our existing services, and in some cases, allows us to provide research services that we haven’t been able to offer in the past.”

NERI provides customized Phase II-IV outsourced clinical trial management, patient registry and epidemiological research services to government research agencies, biopharmaceutical and medical device companies. NERI has developed a specialized expertise in clinical trials and registries, particularly in the cardiovascular, pediatric and medical device arenas. It is distinguished by its breadth of capabilities which include expertise recruitment and retention, and product development built on strong formative research.

“Our portfolios and our values are very complementary to those of HealthCore,” said Sonja McKinlay, president and co-founder of NERI. “In addition to working with top-notch researchers at HealthCore, we’re looking forward to the opportunity to broaden contributions to the field based on our combined powerhouse of skills, such as integrating our expertise in rare and orphan diseases with HealthCore’s robust data environment.”

NERI will continue to operate from its current location in Watertown. Adding this site further strengthens HealthCore’s already growing presence in greater-Boston and provides opportunities to add to the combined team.
